Data Gatherer is completely user configurable data collection software (no software developer experience required), allowing a mobile workforce to collect data using their Windows Mobile 5.0 or later devices and to return that data to a central location. Data Gatherer is made up of two components, the desktop application and the mobile application.

The desktop application is used to generate template forms and to manage the data. From these templates jobs can be created and completed in the desktop environment. Alternatively the jobs can be uploaded (via ActiveSync) to the Windows Mobile device, where the Windows Mobile operator can complete the data entry for the job, once complete the data can be uploaded back to the desktop environment via ActiveSync. If a template is uploaded to the Windows Mobile device then the Windows Mobile user will be able to generate their own jobs from those templates.

The desktop can store the data in any of Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access or Microsoft SQL Compact databases.

Type of questions supported by the software are: GPS data collection, Signature Collection, Pictures, Drop Down Lists, Free Text, Checkboxes, Dependencies (questions only appearing when specified Drop Down Lists have certain values).

Remote synchronization of data can be provided on request using a Webservice.

* Other database support can be provided on request

Installation:

* Download the zip file by clicking on the link above
* Unzip the file
* Open the Desktop folder and double click on the setup.exe file to install the desktop application
* Open up the PDA folder and copy all the .CAB file to the PDA
* Using file explorer on the PDA locate the cab files and click on each of them in the following order
* NETCFv2.wm.armv4i.cab (if the .NET Compact Framework Version 2 is not already installed)
* sqlce30.ppc.wce5.armv4i.cab (for SQL CE 3.0)
* Setup.cab to install Data Gatherer

Quick User Guide:

* Download and install the software
* Setup ActiveSync to Synchronise files between desktop and PDA (see www.microsoft.com for assistance
* Run the DataGatherer Desktop application
* Select Tools->Applications and setup the folder and database options as required
* The PDASyncFolder should point to the folder created by ActiveSync to hold the synchronised files
* Select New Template from the toolbar
* Click the Add Question toolbar item to add your required questions, configuring each question in turn in the panel on the right
* Click save and close when you are finished
* Click Manage Data and create new jobs based on the templates you have created
* Click save and close when finished
* Click Manage PDAs
* Click List All Data to list all available jobs
* Select the jobs you want on the PDA and click Add Selected Jobs
* Select and Templates you want on the PDA and click the > button to add it to the PDA (this will allow the PDA operator to create their own jobs
* Click save and close to save the data
* ActiveSync will now automatically copy the files across to the PDA where they can be opened on the PDA
* Once the jobs are complete on the PDA, reconnect the PDA to the desktop, click on Manage PDAs in the desktop software and import all jobs required
