This is a nice tool for IT guys, working with network and security. This tool searchs for an IP address using a local compressed database from Maxmind. This database has 97% accurracy and therefore can give country, city, latitude, longitude, state, postal code with precision just based on an IP address. This is the link to database provider: http://www.maxmind.com/app/geolitecity Note: The provider of this database has a version of its online database for free, but instead as a dat file. This is a large file of (~43MB). SMART IP is just a client which queries for a ip address against this dat file provided by Maxmind! Their database is updated on the first day of every month. For a more complete databse which gives algo the ISP name, you should contact Maxmind directly. How to install
Install the cab, execute the application. Uncompress the database ,locate the GeoLiteCity.dat ! Now you are ready to search.

lol, they aint daabasses that have dis kinda info?? Have you never heard of a whois search or any of da other hundreds of databases DEDICATED to storing IP addresses. Do u not think ur ISP keeps a log on assigned Ips? u needa xhange ya username from Smart. Nice program man, I am a webmaster and IT tech and I use my Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro SmartPhone for everything. Nice azz app, will make my job much easier! Don't let fools like dat get u rawled up, tru IT ppl know the value of a proggy like dis.

Excellent job writing the program. It's almost like an offline version of whois. :) I only have 2 suggestions. when looking up an IP on maxmind.com, it gives you the URL of the registered IP owner, and the ISP name. If this were integrated into this program, it would be a welcome addition. @"smart" You are either an ignoramus, a fool, or a troll. Yes, a database does exist of IP address owners. If you had done a bit of research prior to posting, you wouldn't have come across as an fear-mongering technophobe. (and god forbid, you may actually learn something).

Yea, but it gives lat and long right? Google maps already accepts lat and long inputs with the loc: command. I can put it in manually to see where it is. Other apps even tall you how to get to a specific lat/lon from where you are, i.e. wmminigps. Anyway, nice app, keep us posted on improvements!

DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS PROGRAM. All the author is doing is collecting IP addresses for mass attacks. There is no such thing as a database that contains information on everyone's IP like this.

Thanks! Anyway i found that adding googlemaps, would be useful just for us residents. The database returns the postal code for us cities only, for the rest of the world, it simply returns the country and city. Therefore i didnt find useful to show just the city on the map. All keep my eyes on the version of this database. If i can get the postal code worldwide, this is going to be really a nice feature.Thanks for your suggestion!

When I go to your website I get the following error message: THIS ARTICLE DOESN'T EXIST OR THE DATABASE TEMPORARILY IS UNAVAILABLE ... however, I found the SmartIP link off to the side. Installed, and works well! I hope you'll press forward with this, maybe add a function that will pass off the coordinates to GoogleMaps for location, directions, etc. Keep up the good work! :)

Hello !!Thanks for you guys that downloaded my application and tested it. That guy tried to put me down but actually nice people like you guys are here to say the truth. To clarify two questions. I would like to put the ISP also in my application, however the version which shows it, unfortunatelly is not free. Now concerning the latitude and longitude, they kind show the information from the city. Except from U.S they kind of show the information in a very general manner. I will still improve it with new ideas in the future!!! Regards
