game dont work on my wm5. "error main.dat not found. see section installation of readme.txt"
I tried to install this ages ago from another source and ive still got a levels file called levels.dat, is that the one its looking for? Please someone tell us where we can get this file!!! I LOVE THIS GAME!!
You need go to: http://it.travisbsd.org/lemmings/lemmings.php and download the "Lemmings DOS" version, copy only the MAIN.DAT to the folder where you installed the game and get FUN!
@ gordanoid..... you are a dumb a!@ before you post a stupid reply like that read what the programer wrote in the description... I can't stand stupid people!
The .dat file can also be located here, its in the zip file... - www.oldschooldos.com/lemmings.php p.s freaking awesome game.. works great!
Installed on MDA Compact iv (aka HTC Diamond). Resolution is all wrong. DOnt instal until a new resolution is released. The touch screen is all wrong.
I d/l the main.dat at the website provided by "HMGAME" and then copied it and it still says can not locate main.dat file. Im kinda new to this stuff... can someone let me know how to install it properly?
Hi folks, sorry about not making it clearer that you need to get the MAIN.DAT from DOS Lemmings, the game got to this site more quickly than I could submit it with proper information :) HMGAME provides a pretty good hint about what you need to do to get it to run... Have fun saving Lemmings!
Where did you copy it? It has to go into the same directory on you PocketPC as GUI.DAT Generally this will be Programs\Pocket Lemmings
Sorry, make that Program Files\Pocket Lemmings
One last note about the resolution: I'll try to get it to run on VGA. No promises yet though.
I do know you use C++, but I dont know how you get the styles point. In case it is a VGA value, and the screen is resized, like on my VGA device, you only need to device the point by 2 ( of course x and y but I think you allready understand ). Keep up the updates:) public bool VGA { get{ backbuffer.Width > 320 } }
copy the main.dat file into Program Files\Pocket Lemmings... P.S the text file said to copy it to the main directory so its a good idea to read stuff!! Also this works fine on the tytn ii..
YOUR THE MAN Thanks this is working fantastic on my HTC Touch. Cheers
thnx!!! i hope it works on my HTC...
Hey guys thanks that helped a lot... game works great!!!
not workin on my HTC wm5...HELP!!!
Tell us what's wrong and maybe we can help...
You go to http://it.travisbsd.org/lemmings/lemmings.php And then you download the DOS version, unzip it, and copy the MAIN.DAT file onto your Pocket PC. Not in the main directory but in the Mobile Device/Program Files/Pocket Lemmings directory on your Pocket PC. You know its the right one when you see a GUI file and LemmingsCE.
Works with both main.dat - from original and sequel. But problems to assign keys - an PDA does not have enough :( Even if I have an PDA phone. And Touch screen not working well. Also missing EXIT button on screen ( main, not menu ) and cannot assign an Escape key....
Thanks! Another mush have game :) Works good on my tytn ii. the only "problem" i had is that when you start the game it switches to landscape mode and when you exit it doesn't switch back.
Awesome... Thanks...
@Lemmo - Out of curiosity, what problems do you have with key assignment? By default, the Enter key (middle push on 5-way) is exit, otherwise to exit from the game double click nuke and let em 'splode. @3_letters - That's majorly strange, on a normal exit the mode should definitely be set back to your default setting. Do you pull out the keyboard for the game? That _might_ mess things up, not sure what else could cause it.
doesn't work correctly on my HTC Diamond. Downloaded the original main.dat, placed in the correct dir. When I run the program and choose the original or oh no more lemmings, the programs exists itself. Has probably to do with HTC diamond doesn't have a lot real buttons
@dormamu - Does a list of levels come up at all? When does it crash, when you switch level packs (left and right buttons), or when you start a level? Try doing everything via the touchscreen, without pushing buttons. The total number of buttons should be irrelevant, since the entire game can be controlled from the touchscreen. Just make sure you're not pushing a button mapped to exit.
@johannes - with dos original, one level comes up, just dig!. Oh no more let's me the level down and out lemmings. The touchscreen doesn't seem to respond correctly when I touch it. Most of the time it does nothing and sometimes it makes the indicatorbar go up or down
@dormamu - That's the intended behavior, you have to complete the first level before going on to the second (unless you've deselected enforce level progression in the options menu). As far as touchscreen responsiveness goes, not sure what is wrong. Does holding the pen down longer help?
Thnxx...its workin! Yipieee!!!
Johannes - I don't have enough keys to assign. Game was made fo full keyboard. An PDA has only few keys... Enter I presume you speak of pushing down the joystick... But not working for me. Also cannot exit by double click nuke. Nothing happened. I must wait until time expire. BTW my PDA is an ASUS P750 - perhaps help...
@Lemmo - While it's true that you can hotkey anything, this is definitely not necessary. Everything can be controlled via touchscreen (except for immediate exit while playing). Not sure why your touchscreen doesn't respond better, can you navigate through the menus properly? Does the scrollbar for the hotkeys work properly? Your PDA really shouldn't have any problems with Pocket Lemmings.
@Johannes - The touchscreen simply doesn't work with PocketLemmings. When I press any of the buttons on the screen nothing happens. Except when I press the up button for the scrollbar then sometimes the scrollbar goes down (no typo). To me it seems that the touchscreen simply doesn't respond. If you need more info I'm pleased to help
Hi folkes! I can get it working on my HTC Touch Diamond but it stops there......can I use the stylus somehow to get the game actually going? Your help please! Thanks in advance
Worth it just for the music and sound effects. Ah the memories.
These touchscreen problems you (apparently plural now) are getting are really strange... The game does properly switch to landscape mode, right? I'll post a version for debugging this issue this weekend. @dormamu - what's the up button on the scrollbar? There is no up button... @Rico - yes, the stylus should (of course) work, and does fine for me in all scenarios I've tested. You both have QVGA (i.e. 320x240) screens, right? VGA support isn't coming until the weekend.
It switches to landscape without problems. I mean the up and down button to change the level diffulcuty instead if the scrollbar (My fault for describing it wrong). Maybe the VGA is the problem. The manual of my phone says it has an 640x480 VGA touchscreen. But I can see the menu clearly ony the touching itself doesn't work.
Aha, problem solved. I can very well imagine things going crazy if you have 640x480 resolution - even if the screen is scaled accordingly, all your stylus clicks will be way off. Pretend that the game only takes up the top left quarter of your screen, and you should notice things responding. As I said, I'll try to get VGA working over the weekend, so stay tuned!
Me parece un poco aburrido al principio. pero como tdos ls juegos al final terminan envolviendolo
Don't worry, things get harder in Mayhem :) Remember there are multiple difficulty levels, Fun is basically a tutorial mode to teach you how to play.
I have a big problem. Look at this link. what can I do? http://bibi.trei.ro/aug08.jpg
@XBoris - Hmm, that's bizarre, thanks for posting the image. For some reason the terrain isn't initialized properly, does this happen on all levels? What device is it? My guess would be that you are running out of memory, but that is only a guess. Unfortunately I don't have nearly as many checks in the code as I probably should, I'll try to add some for the next version.
You are absolutely right!!! Still managed to complete two levels now I know only to use the top left quarter of my screen ;)
I have the same problem with XBoris, the tiles are messed up in my Mio A702. Anyone has the same problem?
Re Johannes : This is my model: http://www.intomobile.com/2007/06/15/mitac-mio-a702-windows-mobile-60-professional-smartphone-with-gps.html It's not a problem about my memory, and I can't complete the level becouse I can't see the terrain. The problem is : I love this game! :)
@dormamu - Talk about a handicap :) I'm not quite ready for another official release, but for those of you with VGA I've updated the executable in the CAB file. So either download and reinstall the game, or just grab the new executable from http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~zeppenfe/files/LemmingsCE.exe Have fun!
@Johannes - It works like a charm now. Thanks mate, I give at a 5!!! :D
Lemmings is about the only computer game that I actually enjoy, so I'm delighted to see this version. Many thanks. One question: I'm using an HP 214 with VGA screen and the game is rather slow (about two seconds real time for one second on the screen). Is this because I'm runnning from the CF card?
That may contribute to the problem, although all data is loaded before the level begins. You may want to try turning off music to reduce the processor load, and of course make sure you didn't set the game to 50% speed in the configuration options...
Brilliant!! Works a treat on my mogul, just follow the instructions and it's all good!!
I checked the game speed, and it was set to 100% (by default). I tried increasing it to 150%, but that had no effect. Out of curiosity, I reduced the speed to 50%, which had no effect either. It doesn't seem to take the speed setting into account on this machine.
Sorry, I forgot to mention that I turned off the music and sound as well. No difference.
Yes. To bad it is not VGA optimized. How the hell do you time. ? :) Did you made the game time-based or frame based ?
The game is time based, so basically the speed setting just influences the sleep time between frames. If your device can't keep up, then the calculated sleep time would be negative, or effectively 0, i.e. the game would become frame based. Do your devices have hardware DirectDraw support? The only difference between VGA and QVGA is the need to scale the final blit to the screen (internally the screen is always drawn at 320x240). If anyone knows of a way to speed this up I'd be happy to hear about it!
Is not working... :(( too bad..
