@Tango: Same problem here. Opera Mobile leaves a trail of wreckage behind. I had to search the registry for "opera" and do a lot of editing to restore the original file associations. Opera even stuck its damned icon under "ftp", which is a transfer protocol, not a file type, so it doesn't use an icon! To anyone installing Opera Mobile for the first time: Go right to the advanced settings and uncheck the "default browser" item before you go any further with this software!
It changes the html files' icon! Since I installed opera 9.7 beta.. It maked itself the default browser and maked 'big mouth with beta' the defalut html files' icon. I could never get back the prefect defalut icon..After I uninstalled it..things went worse...The icon change to N/A! Tell me what to do!! Yeah.it's a way to hold the PPC browser market..
not running on my phone, try n try
@Jamal: No, it doesn't charge your phone. You have to plug the phone in to do that. Actually, it *discharges* your phone. ;-)
does it charge your phone

doesn't seem to work properly with square-screen devices (such as Treo Pro) - the page loads, but it isn't possible to scroll to the bottom of the content.

thank for the software
I've spent more time experimenting with Opera Mobile lately, and have solved a lot of the problems I was having with it. My browsers of choice on the Axim x51v are now Opera Mobile 9.7b1 and UCWEB 6.3, in that order. I use PIE only if I have to, and I've trashed Iris altogether. It performs very poorly, at least in its latest version (1.1.9), and I have a feeling the next release may not be freeware, as the company has been acquired by RIM (of Blackberry fame). On the Iris site, responses to blog posts have gone unanswered for more than a month, and their download page is now down. Version 1.1.9 is still available here for those who haven't tried it yet.
David, sorry I'm late with this reply, but it took some thought. To be honest with you, I can't name a single best web browser for Windows Mobile. I use three of them now, and each one has its advantages and disadvantages. PIE has crappy rendition and lacks many important functions, but it's still the fastest loading browser on my Axim x51v. Iris Browser has excellent rendition, displaying web sites the way they're designed to look, but it has an awkward user interface, takes longer to start up, and often stalls for a while when loading pages. It also plants a 32 mb. temporary file in the cache folder. UCWEB is packed with useful features, and is very easy to use. It displays pages in "adaptive mode", making them easy to read on the PDA, but it relies on a proxy server to do it. Forget about accurate rendition; that's not UCWEB's purpose. Also, forget about using UCWEB to read your local HTML files, as the proxy server only works with live pages.
real good i like it
kokowawa
GERRY... or others, what is best browser for the Dell Axim X51v. I dont like Windows Browsers even on the PC...
now i downloaded it the other day when it vame out at first it didnt work ,( i have the htc touch pro) soft reset it works fine could use some touching tweeks and pc like abilities would be nice to. java and such i only use my pc now for my bank and they use java keypads no browsers supporst that i have tried :( but all in all i like it very fast loading ( for the most part a good connection helps too) and great picture correction when zooming
On my Axim x51v PDA this is absolutely the worst mobile browser I have ever tried, and I've tried most of them. So what if it's only a beta? One can already get an idea of what the official release will look like -- there's no cure for this disease!
