Updated version 3.1.1

BeyondPod is FREE, Open Source, RSS feed reader and podcast manager (podcatcher) for Microsoft Smartphone and Pocket PC.

Using BeyondPod you can subscribe for RSS feeds, read the feed content, download and listen to associated podcasts (enclosures) directly on your mobile device.

BeyondPod also provides a convenient way to play downloaded podcasts using a built in media player with features like configurable "TiVo style" commercial skip, tracking of played time, easy cleanup of played podcasts and many others.

After installing you can test it by loading our RSS feed url:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/PocketPCfreeware

What is new in this public release

* Fixed a potential application crash when feeds use "unconventional" URLs. for their podcasts (3.1.1.0) - thanks to "MrIch" for reporting that
* Updated the handling of Atom feeds so it can support content generated by Google Reader.
* Added a menu option to toggle grouping by feed in the Podcast view. This option is enabled only when showing all podcasts in the current category.
* Fixed a bug where feed groups were not sorted correctly when "Group by Feed" option is on.
* Categories are now stored in the same file as the podcasts (TrackState.xml). This fixes cases where categories and the feeds assigned to them can get out of sync.
* Fixed an issue where BeyondPod would fail to update on schedule when only WiFi connection is available.
* Added "Allow use of GPRS/EDGE/3G" connections in Tools > Settings > Global Settings. This setting lets you prevent BeyondPod from using the cellular connection for feed updates and downloads. (Useful if your provider charges you per MB downloaded)
* Added "Force New Posts First" setting to Feed Properties to force sorting of posts by date in Content View. This is useful if some of your feeds add their new posts at the end of the feed (instead at the top).
* You can now configure a custom http "UserAgent" string. Please refer to the Resources page for more details on how to set that up.
* Added a setting to Feed Properties to allow for truncating the beginning of podcast names . Useful when long podcast names start with the same prefix like -, thus allowing you to see more of the episode name.
* Allow podcast deletions in Feed properties now has a "Use Global Setting" option. The global setting is in Tool > Settings > General Settings.

I do not recommend this one. It is painfully slow, does not allow offline reading, the feed content list is cluttered with unnecessary links, and you have no option to turn this off. And when you open a news item, it is opened in Internet Explorer, instead of just text with inline images as in RSS Hub or pRSSReader.

I contacted support regarding the Google reader problem --- This is a known problem. There is a patch on the CodePlex site that has a fix. Unfortunately there is no release cab that includes the patch at this moment. http://beyondpod.codeplex.com/SourceControl/PatchList.aspx

Couldn't connext to my Google Reader account, so I uninstalled it. Gave it a second chance and imported the OPML from my Google Reader account. What a wasted effort. Can only import one feed at a time, not all subscriptions at once. Uninstalled again. (And, what's will all the default NPR feeds??) BTW, uninstall is not thorough; manually delete the install directory and registry settings!

just great on my hd2. always latest pod asts.

Matthew Stover @ February 13th 2010 8:19 pm

a little counter-intuitive especially compared to the straight-ahead RSS client included in most PPC WinMo devices. I erased it to go back to the stock RSS reader.

I hope the dev makes a subsidy from NPR because while I am a generous mobile software supporter both in purchases and donations, I wont donate until all the NPR crap is removed out of the box. I feel violated that my device was corrupted by even having those letters in that sequence ever grace the screen.

Leider nicht so gut. Schrift zu groß für HTC Touch HD. Kein scrollen mit Finger mâglich. Lediglich Pfeiltasten der virtuellen Tastatur funktionieren. Keine Suchfunktion von RSS mâglich. Das geht besser.zB: RSS Hub im Energy Rom.

Great podcast player. Builting player. Remembers positions. Download manager.

Peter @ January 31st 2010 6:52 am

No scroll in reading feeds on HTC HD2 :( - deinstalled

vraiment pas mal, l'interface est mieux que "rss hub" mais le gros manque est l'absence de recherche de flux sur intrernet

Enrico @ January 19th 2010 6:31 am

almost perfect RSS reader!

I've tried other podcatchers; this one can't be beat. I have it running on a Windows Mobile 6.1 Samsung Jack off the microSD card. The ability to configure BP to download only through a wifi connection is a big plus--no need to worry about going over your data limits. Also like that I can delete played podcasts automatically, so I won't ever run out of storage. Thank you!

This is an AWESOME program and it's free. It's very easy to use and worked better than the Podcast program that came with my Omnia; it was a piece of crap with potential, too bad. Anyhow, this is working really well for me however the need for a built-in player is rather annoying. Like I need a 3rd audio/video player on my cell phone. The drawback is that the player keep crashing but the developer was smart enough to give you an option to use the External players instead of it's own built-in player. So now I'm happily listening to my favorite podcasts. This is comercial grade programm for free, I strongly recommend getting it.

root-dir @ May 21st 2009 11:51 am

Love this program wish it had a today screen plugin. defaults with NPR crap
