PocketBirds Europe is an easy to use bird identification guide. It covers the UK and Europe with about 400 birds.

PocketBirds Europe allows you to identify a bird by sight or sound, whether you are a dedicated bird watcher or you just wish to know what birds visit your garden.

Installation

1. Installing the program

Copy the PBE_308_QVGA_PPC.ARM.CAB to your PPC and tap it to install the program.
Or you can use the activesync install program within the EXTRAS folder.
(If you have an older PPC - WM2002 or WM2003 - and this does not work then use the alternative CAB from within the EXTRAS folder.)

2. Install the Data Folder

Copy the folder 'PBEdata' onto your Storage Card.

Non-English Bird List languages...

Copy the chosen language to your PBEdata folder (follow the instructions on the text file
found within the LANGUAGES folder.)

Great program! Works fine on my HTC P3470. Also found v3.3 with additional features such as 1 photo per species (but files still have to be renamed from .jpg to .jpx) http://rapidshare.com/files/323775115/AviasoftPocketBirds_Europev3.5.5.rar Some remarks: * Copying the PBEdata folder to the storage card takes quite a long time * International characters (FR, SE, ES...) not recognised * Still some important species missing - e.g. Eleanora's, Gyr and Saker falcon(s) * allow more than 1 photo to be added by user? Tip: to locate the PBEdata folder you copied on the storage card, the pgm will ask for the path(name) of the card if it cannot find it - when asked, click on the folder of the card itself (the root), not on the PBEdata folder Tip2: You can make the program truly multilingual by copying a translated index1.txx (see languages folders) as index25.txx, index26.txx, etc in the lists folder (also see manual), then change UNUSED 15, 16 in GROUPS2.TXX to "Tous les oiseaux - FR", "Alle vogels - NL", etc.

I followed the steps but always has error message of missing data. it seems the link to data files are incorrect in the programme

This is a FANTASTIC program, but the colours are not correct on my HTC Touch 3G. Please could you tell me if/how to correct them? Thanks.

that tool dosnt find the database at my storagecard. i think the problem is, that the path in the path file is wrong. That is what in the file is, also the curios symbols: ï»¿\Speicherkarte\PBEdata\ can someone write here a path that work, please? :)

Looks great. Installed the dutch version, but quite some birdnames and information is still in English. Also some typo's in some dutch names. Tried to correct the mistakes and translate the english info to dutch but reinstalling the txx file seems a problem.

Further to my previous message, I have now tried the download with IE (was using firefox) and it downloaded fine. This program is brilliant! Works fine and easy to install and use!

The download links just take you to a file sharing site where you wait 90 seconds to download the file - upon doing so the downloaded file is just an HTML file link - which then takes you back to file sharing site link again, but if you haven't got a paid account with that site, you're then told you cannot download it free again!
